As 2011 draws to a close, my heart is full of anticipation for 2012.  I’ve taken the last year off for family business and have had the opportunity to watch this last year’s activity and growth from an outside perspective.  To see the work, the dedication, the passion and the direction grow and evolve has been both humbling and beyond encouraging.  Since 2006 when Mike, Dave and I dreamt over a cup of coffee and planted the seeds for our first show, it seems like the amazing ride we embarked on has only gotten more and more wild.  The best part about it is that we have gone from a small group of dreaming and idealistic friends and grown into an amazing and beautiful community full of intentionality and vision.

My thanks and undying gratitude go out to every one of you, from artist to attendee, sponsor to customer, for every ounce of love that you have poured out into the Dallas arts community.  I can see 2012 bringing us more connections, more focus and more importantly, more Love to you and to our community.  I’m looking forward to hugging your neck at the next show.

Peace,

ArtLoveMagic, a Texas NFP organization proudly announces Underground.

Underground has a tradition of being the biggest, loudest, freshest show ArtLoveMagic does every year at South Side On Lamar (1409 S. Lamar, Dallas, TX 75215). In 2011 you can expect no less than 50 live artists, dozens of art forms, and absolutely incredible live performance acts. The show will be for one night only, Saturday, February 12, from 8pm to 12am. A two week long exhibit containing works from artists performing in Underground will be on display following the event within the Janette Kennedy Gallery (2/13 – 2/26).

Like all ArtLoveMagic events, this experience will be live and interactive. Each artist whose work is in the two week long exhibit will be creating live on February 12th, 2011. Audience members will watch artwork come to life, while musicians, dancers and poets entertain on the stage. Added this year are special presentations in our new 21+ room where you can see body painters producing live, alongside a live figure drawing class, a fashion show and much more. In addition we will have a special, once in a lifetime, collaborative song featuring all the musicians within the event. Take a breather at our coffee lounge or get caffinated for a B-Boy dance off!

Entry is $10 at the door.  But you can buy discounted tickets right now at www.artlovemagic.com.

ArtLoveMagic was founded in January of 2007 with the belief that a staggering amount of artistic talent in Dallas was going unrecognized and/or underdeveloped.  We have created more than 50 live experiences, involving over 500 artists and performers. What generally is missing from gallery shows is so obvious that we usually take that lacking for granted – the creators responsible for the artwork. Thankfully, our artists are always present and creating live, which offers a unique opportunity for audiences to learn, co-create, and for perspective clients to inquire about the creative process.

For more information on Underground and the artists/musicians involved, please visit www.artlovemagic.com

We hope to receive your support at this, our most anticipated event of the 2011.

Amazed and Humbled

Posted in Shows, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , on July 26, 2009 by artlovemagic

In less than two weeks, a dream will come true for tons of people in Dallas. For some it will be the dream of their first public show of their art. For some it will be the dream of helping a movement in its motion. The dreams are as numerous and as deep as each heart involved.

For me, the dream boils down to this: seeing people that I have personally impacted take control of a project and make it shine brighter than I could have ever conceived. You see, since her conception, ArtLoveMagic shows have been primarily produced by me, Mike Lagocki and Dave Rodriguez. We’ve rounded up the artists, called and organized the volunteers, secured the venues, led the pre-meetings… You get the idea.

But with girlShow, we have been able to let go of the reigns. Melody Hay, Deb Driscoll, Nicole Rodriguez and my beautiful wife, along with a host of others, have come to the forefront of the movement and created an extremely beautiful show for the world to see.

As a producer, there are very few things that can bring me more joy than to see others learn the art of production and create scenarios of beauty and creativity that change the cultural landscape of a city. Part of our mission is to help artists find their identity and grow into their roles of society, not to create an organization that babysits and hands people things on a silver plate. And, to see people take control of a story and make a new chapter is an incredible gift.

So, I’d like to give mad props to my Sisters in Production and tell you, the reader, that your face is about to be rawked off.
Go get your tickets now.

Hip Hop Helps Heal (H4) Rawked

Posted in Shows with tags , , , , , , , , on June 14, 2009 by artlovemagic

Last night ArtLoveMagic partnered with H4 for their second fundraising event, Mend the Home. Last year they raised funds for Susan G Komen and this year they raised funds for Genesis Women’s Shelter.

The night was a beautiful mix of hip hop, paint, and souls. A long time dream was fulfilled for Dave Rodriguez who was staged an painted live with hip hop artist, Playdough. Click on our photos on the right to see the pics from the night.

I was talking with Damascus last night and I shared with him my hope that the rennaisance of Deep Ellum will be one not only of art, but art that changes lives and the whole culture of Dallas.
Bring it, friends. We will rawk your face off.
