Underground has a tradition of being the biggest, loudest, freshest show ArtLoveMagic does every year at South Side On Lamar (1409 S. Lamar, Dallas, TX 75215). In 2012 you can expect no less than 50 live artists, dozens of art forms, and absolutely incredible live performance acts. The show will be for one night only, Saturday, February 11, from 8pm to 12am. A two week long exhibit containing works from artists performing in Underground will be on display prior to the event within the Janette Kennedy Gallery (1/27 – 2/11). Like all ArtLoveMagic events, this experience will be live and interactive. Each artist whose work is in the two week long exhibit will be creating live on February 11th, 2012. Audience members will watch artwork come to life, while musicians, dancers and poets entertain on the stage. Live performances by Spoonded Tribe, Katsük, Keisha Hunter, Ashley Falgout and more. In addition, Underground will also feature the Blue Room once again, a 21+ room where you can see bodies painted, various sensual art, and unique presentations.Entry is $15 at the door.  But you can buy discounted tickets right now at or at (discounted tickets available only through midnight 2/9/12).
ArtLoveMagic was founded in January of 2007 with the belief that a staggering amount of artistic talent in Dallas was going unrecognized and/or underdeveloped.  We have created more than 100 live experiences, involving over 1000 artists and performers. What generally is missing from gallery shows is so obvious that we usually take that lacking for granted – the creators responsible for the artwork. Thankfully, our artists are always present and creating live, which offers a unique opportunity for audiences to learn, co-create, and for perspective clients to inquire about the creative process. For more information on Underground and the artists/musicians involved, please visit or http://undergrounddallas.comWe hope to receive your support at this, our most anticipated event of the 2012.Visit our amazing sponsors:

ArtLoveMagic Entry Image: Loungin’ Around

The top photo is the original image used in creating the new entry for I totally dig this new entry image, and not because I worked on it. The original photo was taken by Jenice Johnson at our Father’s Day event which was located at located at the Egg & I in Addison. To end the night right Justin found me within the collection and told me to follow him. He does this often at our events and this usually leads to an interview or a photo op or something amazing is going on at our event and he wants to make sure that I get a chance to see it. I’m concerned about the day that will come when I blindly follow him, as I do, and he leads me to my doom. That will be a sad day. Anyway, this was a photo op. Michael and Serena were already comfortable on the ground. Justin joined in and I quickly got what we were trying to accomplish. Sherry decided to join us and Jenice began to shoot.

About a day after the event a collection of photos began appear on Jenice’s facebook account and this image was among them. This is ArtLoveMagic. We are gathering up amazing talent, we are rockin’ out shows, we are making an impact in our communities, we are sharing the love, and we’re doing it our way and enjoying every minute of it. That’s what this pic represents to me. As well, it is a great reminder of our amazing poet and dear friend, Serena Wills, who will be incredibly missed when she moves to DC (but she’ll be back for girlShow!)

When I told Jenice I wanted to use the image for an entry image, she expressed how she liked the image as well but was not happy that the linen we were resting on did not travel to the edges of the frame and mentioned her dislike of viewing the electrical plug within the shot. Hearing stuff like that makes me smile because I know I can fix those things with ease, and completely enjoy doing so. I will Photoshop that image up and down until it begs for mercy!

After that conversation I knew what she wanted me to fix but I knew I still needed to add some element within it in order for it to be ready for the site but I didn’t know what it might need. Then it hit me. I always try and add the text “artlovemagic” into the image somehow. In this one I could make the letters appear as though they were physically in the shot . And presto. Now I’m smilin’. Thanks Jenice for taking a beautiful shot of us (btw, I’m the one in the white button down). I think it’s another awesome piece, really… I’m trying not to be egotistical about this. If you have a concept that you think might be cool, let me know at

ArtLoveMagic… It surrounds us, it penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together.

I was supposed to be working on some other materials this past weekend but all of a sudden this image popped into my mind and I had to do it.

Yeah, I know it’s a bit nerdy but I really enjoy working in Photoshop and blending images together to create a new illustration. The painter is bad-ass illustrator Josh Boulet as he was doing his magic at Illuminate. Original photo taken by Jenice Johnson. I haven’t decided yet if I’m adding this image to our wallpaper selection on the Media page within I will be adding more images to that page soon. Let me know what you think of the image. Do you have a favorite entry image that we have used in the past? Got an idea for a future illustration? Comment on this post or send me a jpg of your concept ( and maybe we can use it.

When kids attack

n682019738_2540370_32934This pic is just too funny. This is Sarah Rodriguez attacking artlovemagic founder Michael Lagocki at our family Mother’s Day event. The sheer joy on her two year old face as she pound Mike’s head into the floor just radiates.

What’s Next? Pigs Flying?

Posted in General Wierdness, Shows with tags , , on May 1, 2009 by artlovemagic

So, it is no news that weird weather stalks our events like, we insert your own metaphor here. Freak dust storm the day of our first big show in 07. Hail ten minutes before we opened the doors to Illuminate. I could go on and on.

But now, it appears the whole of Denton County is in on the conspiracy. It appears that they heard we were going to throw a pretty rad shindig on Saturday at Mecca on Main and to quell any possibility of future competition with their Arts Fest, they released a statement urging all Denton County residents to avoid public gatherings this weekend in order to avoid the possible spread of Swine Flu.. Wow. Dust. Hail. Pigs? That’s quite a line up.
Anyway, we want to encourage everyone who was planning on coming out to the fundraiser to instead lock themselves into their studios, put on their face masks and use the afternoon for a little personal creative time. Who knows? Maybe the pigs can be your chunky little muse.

We’re planning another show with Mecca for the summer so we’ll let you know what develops after these pigs fly over.
